Lyman Family December 14, 2014

This week I traveled to Utah on Thursday through Sunday to take part in Kimberlee and Reed Arthur’s sealing at the Ogden Utah temple. They were sealed Saturday December 13, 2014 around 3 PM. There was a wonderful turn out of family and friends to support them. Blair and Rhonda Lyman and Ron and Laurie Arthur were there a long with lots of brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles and friends. I’m so excited for them have the wonderful blessings of the temple in their lives.

Also this week Olivia had another indoor soccer game at Samba Soccer in Grass Valley. She loves playing and has a wonderful team.

Carrie did an amazing job running our first weekend respite in Yuba City at our new facility. Things went well and were excited to move forward with helping families in Yuba City. We still have a ways to go before we’re filled up but we’ve had a great start.

On Saturday our stake did a Christmas night titled “O, Holy Night” Members brought Nativity and artwork related to Christmas to the stake center and then we had musical numbers by ward choirs and special guests. Young men and women from each of the wards did a live nativity. Although I was unable to attend Carrie and many of the ward members said that it was a great success. Carrie brought a few of our nativities to have on display and also sang in our ward choir that night. The girls had a blast playing and being a part of the festivities. We truly have a wonderful stake and ward.

This Sunday we learned that both Sister Alvarez and Sister Patterson will be transferred from our ward. We’ve had a wonderful time the last 4 months working with them to share the gospel. They have amazing testimonies and have been valiant in testifying of Christ.

This week I have been studying and pondering the 84th section of the Doctrine and Covenants which contains the oath and covenant of the priesthood. I learned a few things new as I reviewed those verses. I didn’t realize that the priesthood was not a direct line from father and son through all the generations. For example Abraham received the priesthood from his father-in-law, Jethro (which I knew previously ) but had always that the scriptures showed the priesthood going from father to son.

Also I remember the name of Esaias from previous readings and it drew my attention this time around. It is interesting that he is mentioned only here in the Doctrine and Covenants and was such a spiritual giant that he received the priesthood directly from God (even though he lived at the time of Abraham and was blessed by him.) I wonder why? I’m assuming some of the lost scriptures that we currently do not have would contain some of his teachings because we don’t currently know anything about him other than what is mentioned in these few short verses.

Lastly I love the verse 20 that talks about how the power of God is manifest through the priesthood ordinances. The more we perform priesthood ordinances the more power of God we can have in our lives.

We love you everyone!
