Stop Oil Speculation – Lower Gas Prices

11 Jul

Yesterday I was reading through my email and came across and email from Delta airlines (today I got another email from the President of the air transportation association) about how Oil speculators are driving the price of oil up.

The email pointed me to www.stopoilspeculationnow.com that allows you to enter your zip code and send a message (email or letter) to your congress person! The website also has some pretty interesting statistics such as: “As speculators continue to dominate the market, the volume of oil traded “on paper” has been as high as 22 times greater than the volume of oil consumed.”

I sent an email to my congressmen letting them know that they need to fix the laws and regulations surrounding oil speculation. If the price of gas is causing your financial budget a little grief you might consider doing the same and passing the word along.

Juan Pablo says hi

19 Jun

Bogota TempleBelow is a video from the Alejandra Trujillo and her four year old son Juan Pablo. Alejandra and the Trujillo family is a family that I taught the gospel to while serving a mission in the Colombia Bogota South Mission in 1998. Alejandra and her mother Ayda were both baptized while I served in the Marsella Ward in Bogota. I also threw in a  picture of the Colombia Bogota Temple that was dedicated while I was serving in Colombia!

Juan Pablo is an amazing little boy. He is very fluent in English and he seems to be a great kid (I’ve never personally met hmi other then over the phone, online chat, and through video). It is wonderful to still be in contact with families from my mission.

Solar Energy a great solution to generating electricity

19 Mar

About a year ago I heard of a company called Citizenre which is launching a new idea to bring solar energy to the masses. I often read about how we have an energy crisis. The cost of electricity continues to rise. Coal, nuclear, and natural gas power generation are expensive and pollute the environment. So why doesn’t everyone have solar power on their house? It’s too expensive to do. Nobody is willing to spend $20 – $30k to get solar panels on their house that only produce some of the electricity! Citizenre solves that problem. This little graphic below from the Citizenre website explains it very clearly. I’ll explain in more detail as you read on…

Donate for Sam

7 Mar

Sam and his familyI just got an email from Janel Lyman (trent’s wife) about a friend of their family, Sam. We were at Trent and Janel’s baby blessing of Hanna a few weeks ago and had briefly heard that a good family friend (Sam) was in a serious snowboarding accident.

To date Sam is still in the hospital, paralyzed with a broken neck. He has a young son a few months old. Besides all the trials in their life they also don’t have medical insurance. To quote from Janel’s email,

“I know that you all cannot help out, but you can help out in a very big way….pray for him. I believe that the Lord preforms miracles everyday, and with a little faith from all of us we can all make a difference!”

Visit Sam’s website to read the latest details on Sam and his young family and to donate.

We will keep Sam and his family in our prayers as well!

Hanna Lin Lyman is Born

11 Jan

Trent and Hanna Lyman

Trent and Janel Lyman had their little girl on January 9th, 2008. Here is what Trent had to say…

Little Hanna Lin Lyman was born at 4:16 PM. She was 8lbs 2 oz and 21 inches long. Janel came in to be induced at around 10:30 AM and Hanna came a short 6 hours later. Janel only had to pushed for about 10 minutes. Thank goodness for an epidural! I was probably the most uncomfortable one there this being the first time that I was actually present for the birth. Hanna had the cord wrapped around her neck, twice, but came out just fine. Hanna is doing great and barely cries at all. I hope that she keeps it up. Hope you all enjoy the pictures.
