Nadine Virginia Harms Voice Recording

I’d like to share a voice recording of Nadine Virginia Harms that was recorded in the mid 1980’s. Grandma recorded a brief family history of about 15 minutes and sent it to my mother, Cheri Benton for a family night activity. It is wonderful to hear her voice and to have a detailed history and story of her parents and grandparents. Nadine was my grandmother on my mother’s side of the family.

I received this recording on cassette tape from my mother a few months ago. We were concerned that the cassette tape might not last much longer so I recorded it digitally to my computer. I’ve burned a copy of the recording for all my siblings and my mother. If you would like a copy you can either download it from the website or let me know and I can burn a CD and send it to you.

In the recording Grandma begins talking about her mother, Bertha Rubel and Bertha’s parents, Anna Maria Bachmann and Daniel Rubel. After going through a brief history on the Rubel side of the family she then shares some great insight and stories about William J Harms, her father.

I’ve enjoyed listening to grandma’s voice and hearing the wonderful little details about my ancestors. There is so much history that we don’t know yet what little details we do have bring such warmth and joy. I hope that everyone enjoys this recording as much as I have and if you have comments or questions please feel free to post them or email me directly.

  1. It was so nice to her mom’s voice again. Her birthday would have been two weeks from today. Around now and the anniversary of her death as well as when her favorite hymns are sung at church I get teary eyed. It is great to hear family details handed down directly. Thanks for burning this to digital and sharing it with all of us.

  2. That was awesome. Yes thank you. I need to sit down and transcribe that with all the dates and info she shared. It was so nice to hear her voice today. Thank you so much for sharing. Isn’t technology great?

  3. I’m working on transcribing the voice as well. If you get to it before I do Uncle Paul go ahead and send it to me and I’ll post it to the web site for others to download.
